I've been MIA lately because the Holidays are always a busy time for me. Just kidding.... Actually, I've been pretty lazy this last week. So lazy that I can't even update my blog on a regular basis. I've thoroughly enjoyed this year. I was able to finish up one of my hardest semesters academically, finish a summer internship in NYC, and launch my blog. Here are some of my favorite highlights on Wear & Tear.

What you will need:

1. Craft paper

2. Packing paper

3. Choice of wrapping paper

4. Watercolors

5. Choice of yarn/string

6. Scissors and tape

7. Choice of Foliage

Anything goes! Use whatever you can find in your house for gift toppers. You can even use old Christmas ornaments you no longer want anymore!

I decided to make my own wrapping paper by buying packing paper from Walmart and using watercolors to paint designs. In this case I used black watercolor paint to draw spruce needles. Some other cute design ideas would be polka-dots, snowflakes, or candy canes.

I also made my own gift toppers. I used this knitting yarn to make pompoms. I wrapped the yarn around my fingers several times. After I cut the yarn, I cut another small piece to tie between my pompom bundle. Then I cut the bundle loop.

Gift wrapping is one of my favorite parts of Christmas. What most people dread doing is the one thing I thoroughly enjoy about the Holidays. So if you don't want to wrap those presents, send them my way and I am more than happy to do it for you!

I finished my first semester of my last year of college on Thursday. I can't even believe that I only have one more semester to go before I graduate. Bittersweet! During winter break, my family and I are mostly staying home, which I am thankful for. I need some time to reset and peace out from the world!

I can go on and on about my friend, Sarah. We have grown really close this year serving on the Fashion Board exec together. I'm fortunate to have such an intentional friend in my life who I can count on when I'm lonely and bored. If you've ever been fortunate enough to meet her then you know how amazing her personality is. Get to know my friend, Sarah and her favorite pastimes in this interview with her!

1. What about Mississippi do you love most?
Growing up in Mississippi I have come to find that Mississippi is a place of extraordinary warmth, kindness, and hospitality. I have truly loved growing up here and getting to experience a culture that is so rich in cultivating kindness. I appreciate the slowness of Mississippi. I feel that while the rest of the world is constantly on the go, I think Mississippians have perfected the art of stopping and appreciating life for what it is.

2. How would you describe your personal style?

I would say I have a very classic, retro look. Lately I have been gravitating towards more preppy pieces; I love a good collared shirt. I like to incorporate vintage pieces in my style but give them a very modern twist.

3. What are your favorite Instagram accounts to follow?

4. Describe your perfect day?

My perfect day would be spent curled up on my couch, drinking red wine and reading a book.

5. What is your DREAM job?

My dream job would be to write for a living. Two of my greatest passions in life are reading and writing. To do what you love has always been a desire of mine and if I could, I would want to write children's books. I have such a wild imagination and to be able to create something that would inspire so many sweet little souls would truly be so incredible.

Holiday Season by margaret-allison featuring iridescent earrings

When planning your holiday look, I suggest not overdoing it. There are a lot of pretty sequin and beaded dresses out there, but I think those look too prommy and juvenile. I think what's really going to make you stand out from the crowd is:

1. Picking out one statement piece (in this case, it's the top).

It can be a dress, a bracelet, shoes, or if you want to be really simple, bright red lips.

2. Make sure your statement piece is not too flashy.

If people can see their reflection from the all-over sequin dress you're wearing, it's probably too much.

3. It doesn't have to be a dress.

That's why I came up with the ensemble above. It looks good and still fits the theme.

I encourage you to stand out in your own way. That doesn't mean you have to wear all that glitter and spend lots of money on a dress you'll wear once!

I've been MIA for a little bit, but it's because my senior year is sucking the energy out of me. Every year the fashion designer and architecture students put on a Trashion Show. Basically, we make a garment out of recycled materials. I normally don't design for the Trashion Show because I'm usually backstage helping with everything, but I decided I wanted to do it for my senior year. I teamed up with my best friend Clara and we made a dress out of paper doilies. Needless to say after any project, I'm glad it's over.

Dress // Boots (love these)

When I first saw this dress on Gal Meets Glam, I loved it so much. However, I didn't bother clicking the link because I thought it would be an expensive designer dress. For whatever reason, I came back to the post and clicked the link. To my surprise, the dress was very affordable. I just got it in the mail a week ago and the quality is better than I ever expected. How to Roll Your Jeans Up Like a Pro

Begin with your jeans completely unrolled.

From the back, pull a big section...

and fold it over towards the front.

Begin rolling your jeans up keeping the fold in place as much as possible.

Roll a second time.

And voila!

Even I didn't know exactly how to roll jeans up the fashionable way. I never thought there was an art to it.
